Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), MAHARASHTRA CIRCLE has launched IP TV for BSNL customers in PUNE, NAGPUR, NASHIK, KALYAN, KOLHAPUR, AURANGABAD & SOLAPUR. The services will reinvent home television entertainment.

IPTV is one of the most discussed value added service on Telecom Broadband infrastructure. IPTV which is an acronym for Internet Protocol Television is many times misunderstood as Internet TV. Though IPTV is delivered through the broadband infrastructure (largely on ADSL)it does not use Internet and cannot be accessed unless subscribed for the service

In this service the television channels are encoded in IP format and delivered to TV using IPTV set top box in digital format giving unparallel clarity and viewing experience.

With the launch of Multiplay services, the consumers of IPTV would be able to access three communication media viz, telephony, internet and television through existing single telephone line. All three services can be used simultaneously without any interference to each other.

The unique feature of the technology is the support for “Interactive” services. The competing technologies like Cable, DTH, Terrestrial Etc., cannot support this because of no or limited talk back capabilities.

While DTH and Cable are limited to broadcast services, IP TV ’s offering will take entertainment to the next level with a full array of exciting features. In addition to giving 100+ TV channels, IP TV also gives many additional services like, Video on Demand, which is similar to watching video CD / DVD using VCD/DVD players, satellite based regional radio services, Games. Etc., The Personal Video Recorder (PVR) is a feature, where customer can choose to record the channels in his absence for later viewing is added attraction in the offering.

An IPTV customer is provided with a SETUP Box without any monthly rental against a refundable security deposit of Rs 1500. Installation charges will be Rs 250 ( Service tax extra). Monthly charges for the IP TV is Rs 225( Service tax extra) which includes 100+ channel both free to air and paid, Radio, Video on demand, PVR, Games, Photo Album and Dictionary.
